Super Street Fighter 4 pre-release Impressions - Ryu

Not much has changed with Ryu in SSF4, his strong and fierce Dragon Punch's now hit twice, so hitting jump ins now dishes out a little less damage than before, that includes trading hits and following it up with the ultra so don't expect it to affect his game play at all. Saw a few people empty jumping in and just throwing it out catching FA happy people out not expecting the two hits. The rest of his specials and normals seemed identical to SF4. , he is just as strong as ever.

His new Ultra is the Metsu Shoryuken and it looks awesome, very similar to Ryu's super is SFIII, though this one pops them up into the air at the end while Ryu falls instead of going all the way up similar to Gouken's. Landing it off of a FADC'ed Shoryuken is easy as cake though it does not go through the entire animation it goes through with multiple hits for a lot less damage, very similar again to SFIII. I saw many jumpins get hit with it but again multiple hits for average damage, I did not see anyone hitting the ultra on a deep jump so I am not sure if it will give out 100% damage like Gouken's. While the damage is amazing especially off of a FA I honestly do not see it being as viable as Ryu's fireball ultra which to me is still the easiest Ultra to hit off oh nearly anything.

I'm loving the look of the new ultra, it looks amazing though as above at this stage not sure why anyone would pick it over his fireball, but time will tell what uses it's going to have, I can't wait for the likes of Daigo or Alex Valle to show us.
